User innovations have transformed many industries, from banking to software development. The dynamics of user innovation are particularly strong in healthcare. User innovators are often those patients that have a direct need to treat a chronic disease without known treatment, and have the benefit of obtaining immediate feedback on their experimentation. In some cases patients have saved their own lives and the lives of many others. Online platforms and social networks now provide a useful avenue for user innovators to share their experience and help others. This forum brings together patient-innovators, social network pioneers and strategic decision makers from the healthcare industry to discuss the implications of patient innovation on the industry.
