Come join the Girl Choir of South Florida for its 2009 Winter Concert Series Gloria!, featuring performances of seasonal music from all of our choirs, including music performed at the 2009 Pacific International Childrens Choir Festival.
The centerpiece of the program is the famous Gloria in D by Antonio Vivaldi. Vivaldi was the music director of the Ospedale della Pieta (Hospital of Mercy) in Venice, Italy, in the early 1700s. The purpose of the Ospedale was to give shelter and education to children who were abandoned, orphaned, or whose families could not support them. The boys learned a trade and had to leave at age 15. The girls received a musical education, and the most talented stayed and became members of the Ospedale's renowned orchestra and choir. The Girl Choir is proud to present Vivaldis Gloria in the style of its original performances.
