Mark your calendars for artist Melissa McGill's PALMAS performance when Manitoga's central Quarry Pool, moss-covered alcoves and rock ledges come alive with music, song and dance.
For this singular event, McGill, a life-long dancer, collaborates with Flamenco y Sol Ensemble: Artistic Director Sol "La Argentinita", baile-dance/cante-song; Music Director Cristian Puig, cante/toque-guitar; Peter Basil Bogdanos, percussion; Isabel del Dia, baile; and Barbara Martinez, baile/cante.
The performers boldly enliven the water's edge upon a stage at the base of Manitoga's waterfall and seemingly float on water from a central pier. Around the Quarry rim, custom acoustic platforms highlight Flamenco's signature clapping (palmas) and footwork, turning the central Quarry into an instrument of sound and human interaction.
Don't miss the magic as Flamenco's duende - its spirit of evocation and heightened sense of emotion - finds a perfect home with Manitoga's "place of great spirit."
