Chamber Concert featuring Cellist Steven Isserlis and Pianist Kirill Gerstein
This seasons Randolph Newman Concert features two world-class musicians in a rare Bay Area performance. Cellist Steven Isserliss passion for music transcends conventional divisions. Acclaimed worldwide for his musicality and technique alike, he is equally at home drawing the audience into his circle of friends for chamber music or in recital, or on the concert platform with some of the worlds most prestigious orchestras and conductors. Pianist Kirill Gerstein was the First Prize winner at the 2001 Arthur Rubinstein Piano Competition in Tel Aviv and has concertized in the intervening years in virtually all major international music centers. The Randolph Newman Concert is named after SRJCs second president who so generously supported the Chamber Concert Series and whose legacy gift provided funding for this special annual concert. Immediately following the concert, the audience is invited to a special reception for Mr. Isserlis and Mr. Gerstein in the colleges Art Gallery in the Doyle Library. Program: Brittens Cello Sonata; Schumanns Violin Sonata No. 3 (arranged by Steven Isserlis), and Rachmaninoffs Cello Sonata.
