GERALDCASELDANCE - Dwelling
Dwelling is a highly stylized and meticulously constructed dance that ruminates on feeling disoriented and dislocated by culture and society. The work engages the dancers with a series of tasks that disorient the body and mind in space. Employing chance procedures such as word and number generators, word games, and improvisation, Dwelling examines the purpose and nature of collaboration, composing, and performing. Ideas expand beyond these premises and unfold as a meditation on how we relate to one another in space, both private and shared. Performed by five dancers to live music by avant-garde composer, Tim Russell, the dance originally premiered in 2012 and instigated a system of choreography that has inspired a series of works including Gerald Casel's most recent evening-length dance, Visiter.
