Recently the Seattle impact investing community has been focusing on small-scale community-supported enterprises and for good reason. These are a vital part of resilient local economies and we all want structures to support them.
And now to take things to the next level, the idea of activating entire portfolios with 100% mission-alignment is catching on in the impact investing movement, including forward-thinking households and organizations. But as it stands today, some still think impact investing consists mainly of angel, venture, private placements and other elaborate arrangements requiring high minimums and risks. Others had been told that market-based impact investing simply meant applying some check-box social screens to a traditional stock portfolio, or worse that passive disengaged indexing was all you could do.
If you're hungry to learn how some people are becoming more effective impact investors with their entire portfolios (all asset classes, not just private equity), join us the evening of July 8 to learn how to get your own or your organization's primary market-based investments (including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, retirement accounts, trusts, and endowments) working for significant large-scale positive sustainability and human rights impact.
On July 8 investor and human rights thought leader Bennett Freeman will share firsthand stories from his experience engaging with executives and boards as he and his investment company are successfully getting publicly traded companies to adopt major human rights and sustainability standards. His experience with Oxfam America and the US State Department helps further this work by connecting unique coalitions among shareholders, non-profits, and corporate management.
Bennett will share how impact investors and investment managers are working together on shareowner engagements in the public markets, and combining this with other innovative and integrated investing strategies resulting in significant progress addressing some the biggest challenges facing people and planet, all while earning competitive returns in marketable securities portfolios.
Bennett Freeman is the Senior VP of Sustainability Research at Calvert Investments.
Dinner will be provided by the amazing Maven Meals.
Proceeds to benefit Bainbridge Graduate Institute (BGI at Pinchot).
