Forever Rose: Ancient and Modern Distillation
Spend the afternoon with us to learn about old and new uses of the queen of the garden, the rose. In the eighteenth century, distilling was a household process for making medicine and cosmetics as well as a commercial industry for making beverages. Historian Clarissa Dillon will bring her replica 18th century copper still and share her knowledge of historic domestic distilling of damask roses. Botanist Zya Levy will bring us into current times by sharing information about modern medicinal and cosmetic uses of rose water. Bartram's gardener Mandy Katz will give a tour of Bartram's Garden's growing collection of roses.
