SCHEDULE FOR FULLY ONLINE SECTIONS

Register by the 25th of the month.
Start on the 1st of the next month.
Finish by the end of the month.
Submit completion project and apply for optional graduate credit by the 15th of the next month.


SATURDAY INTENSIVE - Blended Delivery (Face-to-Face + Online) -- COMING SOON!

This special intensive program is designed for those who prefer more structured learning.

Attend four Saturdays (8am-4pm) and complete additional online requirements.  Finish two pedagogy workshops in 8 weeks.


PLANNING YOUR TIME (for online programs)

About 10-12 hours per week is required for each program. A final completion project will take about 10 hours and is required of those seeking to apply for optional 3 graduate credit hours available from Chapman University.


WHO ATTENDS?

These FULLY ONLINE workshops are open to all teachers who possess at least a BA/BS.  Workshops are specifically designed for those who need to need to fulfill CPS Policy 602.1 (Middle Grades Specialization) requirements, those seeking to earn credits toward a middle grades endorsement, recertification, employment requirements, or salary advancement. Chapman University credits are accepted by the Illinois State Board of Education as defined at http://www.isbe.net/certification/middle_grade/outofstate.htm .


COSTS

* $450 per workshop class
* Books/materials (see section below)
* $195 to Chapman University for 3 graduate credit hours per title (upon successful completion of all requirements)

* The online workshop facilitator will present directions for registering for credit near the end of the online workshop.

WHAT IS REQUIRED?

Daily access to a computer with Internet access.


Participants will complete print and online readings, viewing of videos, listening to audio podcasts, and/or participate in other online and offline activities to learn content.   Learning is demonstrated by engaging in online chats with the workshop facilitator and other participants, contribute ideas and insights to discussion forums, respond to discussion forum postings made by others, and/or engaging in online group projects.
All online activities can be done from the comfort of home and generally at any convenient times unless an activity requires participation at a particular time (e.g., group project work).


WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

Effective Middle Level Programs (MIDSCH-B9893) -  Philosophy, curriculum, and instructional methods for designing and teaching developmentally appropriate middle grades programs.  Emphasis is placed on addressing the cognitive, emotional and physical development of each child, including teaching reading in the content areas (e.g., science, social sciences).


Understanding, Teaching, and Supporting Middle Level Students (MIDSCH- B 9894) - Explore educational psychology focusing on the developmental characteristics of early adolescents, the nature and needs of early adolescents, and the role of the middle-grade teacher in assessment, coordination and referral of students to health and social services.


ASPD GIVES BACK INCENTIVE PROGRAM

ASPD gifts your school with $500 if 10 or more teachers register for 1 or more workshop classes before September 30, 2009.

Incentive payments are provided to the school after all have completed the program(s) for which they registered.
ONE incentive per school.
ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS

To register, individuals must:
1. Hold at least a BA/BS AND a teaching certificate from any state which permits them to teach full time in public school classrooms without restriction.
OR
2. Hold at least a BA/BS, and be teaching in a K-12 school that does not require a teaching certificate.



USE OF CREDITS

Illinois - Credits earned from Chapman (Brandman) are accepted by the Illinois State Board of Education as indicated at the ISBE website.


Participants are responsible to verify with other states, school districts, and institutions that credits earned through Chapman (Brandman) University will be applicable for the intended purposes.


Other States/School Districts - Please check with the appropriate agency for applicability.


REGISTRATION/PAYMENT

Credit and debit card payments are accepted through a secure (https) payment processing service: BrownPaperTickets.com.  While BPT is a company that primarily handles entertainment events, BPT provides ASPD clients with the lowest processing fees, is reputable, and employs fair-trade practices.



District purchase orders are accepted with prior written approval from ASPD.  Full payment must be received by ASPD before the start date.  E-Mail requests to pay with purchase orders to help @ aspdgroup.com (omit spaces)


FINANCIAL AID is NOT available through ASPD, however, you may wish to check with your benefits department to see if your district/employer provides tuition assistance.

REFUND POLICY

See http://www.aspdgroup.com. Refunds may take 6-8 weeks to process and will be mailed to the address provided at the time of registration.  No refunds are provided after a workshop start date unless a workshop is cancelled by ASPD.

Workshop syllabi, titles of required texts, and other materials for all workshops are posted at the ASPD OnlineClassroom accessible at http://www.aspdgroup.com.


HOW TO LOGIN TO ASPD OnlineClassroom

Workshops will become avaialable on the start date provided your registration payment has cleared.  You will be emailed a login and password a day or two before the start date.  EMAIL help @ aspdgroup.com (omit spaces) if you do not receive this or if experiencing problems.

ALREADY REGISTERED FOR ASPD OnlineClassroom?
- Access the login through http://www.aspdgroup.com.  Course will become available on the date it is to begin.
BOOKS/MATERIALS/WEB-BASED MATERIALS

BOOKS and materials are NOT sold by ASPD and must be purchased by the participant from the publisher or other seller. Purchase only those titles listed below for the workshop(s) in which you are enrolled.  Additional materials available on the Internet will be downloaded from the Internet as directed throughout the workshop (whether face-to-face or online).


Order materials to assure delivery prior to the first session.  Participants who do not have the necessary materials may be severely disadvantaged and may find it impossible to fulfill workshop expectations.
