Chris Pureka at {9} The Gallery
Chris Pureka is an acoustic singer-songwriter based in Portland, Oregon. Raised in Connecticut, she began writing songs at the age of eight and began playing the guitar at 16. Known for her heart-on sleeve lyrics, her proficient guitar playing and her storytelling/folk/Americana style, she has been compared to artists like early Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams, Patty Griffin, Gillian Welch and Mary Gauthier. Chris is the founder of her own label, Sad Rabbit Records and she has independently sold over 8000 copies of her latest album, How I Learned to See in the Dark. Meanwhile she has been touring the US for the last 10 years, and Europe the last four, performing unadorned, country-inflected folk music at cozy clubs and grand theaters, grassroots festivals and urban block parties. She has crisscrossed the globe sharing the stage with such artists as the Lumineers, The Cowboy Junkies, Dar Williams, Peter Mulvey, The Cave Singers, Martin Sexton and Ani DiFranco. She has had her songs featured on such television shows as Brothers and Sisters and Shameless.
