Eden UCC Performing Arts Series - Orpheus at Eden featuring Michael Morales
Orpheus at Eden will feature a song cycle of music inspired by the greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, classical repertoire for male soprano, as well as art songs from the romantic and impressionist eras, including works of Faure, Debussy, and Vaughn Williams.
A Bay Area native, Mr. Morales earned his degree at Sonoma State University, where he studied countertenor voice under Ruth Ann Swenson and Marie Plette. Most notably, he performed as the featured tenor soloist in 2013's Carmina Burana in Weill Hall, and completed his own recital, March of the Falsetto Warrior. An avid participant in choral music, Mr. Morales has performed with both the Les Hommes Men's Ensemble based out of CSU East Bay and the Pacific Mozart Ensemble in Berkeley. He can be heard as a featured soprano on PME's album Dave Brubeck and American Poets.
As a director, Mr. Morales serves as an assistant conductor with the Cantare Children's Choirs of Oakland, working with the Nova Choir of middle and high school students. He has also spent three summers as the assistant conductor for Chanticleer's LAB Skills workshop under the direction of Ben Johns, teaching classes in music and drama. Mr. Morales is also proud to be the choir director at Eden United Church of Christ.
Eden's just-in-time food pantry, Comida para Cherryland, opened for business on April 25, 2012, and serves around 165 families per month, 90% of whom live in Cherryland. The Comida operates on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 1:00-5:00 p.m. or until the food is gone. To volunteer, or for more information, please contact our CompaƱeras/os Ministry Coordinator, Corina Vasaure.
