Doris Powers Memorial Service
The Bostonian Ballerina, has taken her final bow. Surrounded by love from a standing room only crowd of family and friends, she exited gracefully and softly. Her center-stage view of the Sandias was a place she called home almost 60 years. Doris was raised in Boston where she studied ballet for 18 years and honed her shopping skills in Feline's basement. Her older sister, Virginia, introduced her to Albuquerque, where her penmanship won her a drafting job. She soon embraced the Southwest and Richard A. Powers whom she married in 1958. The two embarked on an adventurous life as downhill skiers, home builders, Elks Lodge socialites, Branding Iron BBQ restauranteurs, ACLOA, and MTS enthusiasts. Her gregarious and optimistic outlook made her fast and lifelong friends of the many lives she touched. Always at her best when there was someone in need, she was ready with an empathetic ear and a large homemade cookie. Ever efficient and energetic, Doris was happiest with friends or finding bargains at the mall. She is survived by her grateful children Lisa M. Powers (Gary Stidham), Donald R. Powers, Susan M. Barna (Basil A. Barna), and Pamela J. Powers-Moesser (Lane Moesser); her sister Virginia McGiboney; grandchildren Cees, Willow, Danielle, Ryan and Nick; and her great-granddaughters Arya and Mia. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard A. Powers and her brother Edward S. Jay of Boston. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and Lovelace Drs. Standoli, Federici, Henao, and Sandoval for their exceptional kindness and holistic care. A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Musical Theatre of Southwest, 6320 Domingo Rd. NE, Suite B. Memorial contributions may be made to Musical Theatre Southwest at www.musicaltheatresw.com, American Heart Association at www.heart.org, American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org, or the American Lung Association at www.lung.org.
