Kimberly Gordon with the Marshall Otwell Trio
"Kimberly Gordon is the real deal. The ultimate swing-lovers singer!" --Kurt Elling
"If sapphires could sing I imagine they would have a similar sound" --Neil Tesser, 2014 Grammy-winning jazz journalist
Vivacious and velvet-voiced Chicago veteran Kimberly Gordon returns to delight Bay Area jazz fans after more than a decade of success at the Green Mill in the Windy City, two CDs released and a movie role as the Jazz Singer in "Chicago Overcoat" in 2009. Lauded by Wynton Marsalis, Kurt Elling and 2014 Grammy winner Neil Tesser alike, Gordon sings and swings with a unique talent, always true to the melody as written, with loving respect for masters Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Carmen McRae. With a natural timbre that evokes McRae, Kimberly Gordon will reprise favorite tunes, accompanied by beloved local legend Marshall Otwell, McRae's pianist on tour for years, from New York to Montreux to the West Coast. Joining Marshall are Seward McCain on bass and Mike Shannon on drums.
"...a higher echelon of musicianship.... a talented singer with a compelling sound that's earned her well-deserved staying power." --Jennifer Odell, Downbeat Magazine
"...subtlety of phrases and suppleness of tone. Plenty of Sarah Vaughan in this singing--you can hear it in swooping gestures and dramatic leaps from high to low." --Howard Reich, Chicago Tribune
