GUIDED CHEESE TASTING, CHEESEMAKING PRESENTATION, Q&A + VISIT LAMBS! FARM FUNDRAISER
This is a cheese-centric, educational, sit-down tasting of all of Weirauch Creamery's seasonal farmstead sheep and organic cow cheeses. We will sit at communal tables in the old wood barn and learn about each cheese we taste. We will discuss each cheese in detail, including make process, aging, slideshow presentation, and Q & A with head cheesemaker, Joel Weirauch. After the tasting/presentation we will check out the Weirauch's new crop of spring lambs!
This is also the same weekend as the California's Artisan Cheese Festival (www.artisancheesefestival.com) held at the Petaluma Sheraton, just 10 minutes away from our farm. Each year we are flooded with inquiries by festival attendees that desperately want to come out to the farm. The festival does offer a fabulous series of farm tour packages, but the one coming out to our farm is already sold out. So cheese festival folks, here is your opportunity! This event was created with you in mind. We set these two dates and times so that they do not conflict with the festival schedule of events.
* This is a farm fundraiser. California ranchers started noticing the drought over two years ago and despite the recent rainfall our pastures are still eroded and cracked. Any green grass we may finally get this year will be patchy at best, with a shorter than usual growing season. Due to the high demand and short supply, feed costs continue to rise, forcing livestock ventures of all scale to sell off animals, and go out of business. We have had to begin culling our flock. Each ticket, after our expenses helps to subsidize the feed cost for our animals. To give you a sense of the impact of each ticket sold for this event; the Weirauch's can offset the cost of animal feed for approx. 18 of their dairy sheep for a day. That makes a big difference for a small farm. So thank-you for all of your support!
* This working ranch is not suitable for visiting dogs. We LOVE all animals, but to ensure the safety of our flock and Tully Dolci's free range chickens on the property; please leave your pooch at home, not in your car.
