NWAAFF 2004 - OPENING NIGHT GALA
NORTHWEST ASIAN AMERICAN THEATRE PRESENTS NORTHWEST ASIAN AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL 2004
OPENING NIGHT GALA: IMELDA USA, 2003, 103 minutes Co-presented by Filipino Community Center of Seattle, Filipino American Herald, and Tahanan
Taking advantage of remarkably unfettered access to the former first lady of the Philippines, filmmaker Ramona Diaz crafts a mesmerizing account of Philippine history as viewed through the remarkable life of Imelda Marcos. While a number of voices bear witness to the tumultuous events that marked the latter half of the 20th century, it is Imelda herself who serves up the most compelling tale, forcing us to reconsider the historical role of a woman who is all too often dismissed as an overenthusiastic fan of footwear.
Winner, Excellence in Cinematography, Sundance Film Festival
DIRECTOR/PRODUCER: Ramona Diaz
A reception in the Wing Luke Asian Museum follows the screening.
