Wine vs. Beer Showdown
Kings County Farm Bureau's popular annual wine-tasting fundraiser is being revamped this year, promising that the event will be bigger and better than ever. Winter Wine Showcase has evolved into the Great Wine vs. Beer Showdown, and tickets are now on sale.
The festivities will take place on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Kings Fairgrounds. An evening of wine and beer tasting, appetizers, music, and mingling, the Great Wine vs. Beer Showdown promises to be entertaining while raising money to support Farm Bureau programs.
The Great Wine vs. Beer Showdown, which began nine years ago as Winter Wine Showcase, raises money to support local farmers through educational programs, training classes, industry workshops, political activism, and community involvement. Farm Day, which gives 2,300 Kings County third-graders a hands-on lesson in agriculture, livestock and farm equipment, is one of the many Farm Bureau-sponsored programs that this event helps support.
"Wine vs. Beer Showdown is our largest annual fundraiser," said event chairman Theo de Haan. "Attendance at this event allows us to continue advocating for local agriculture and providing the programs and services that local farmers have come to rely on."
This is traditionally a sold out event, so tickets should be purchased in advance. Tickets are $50, and can be purchased from any Farm Bureau board member or at the office, located at 870 Greenfield Ave. in Hanford. Tickets may also be purchased at Nashville's, Mackey and Mackey Insurance and the Lemoore Chamber of Commerce.
