One Stride Behind the Setting Sun
One Stride Behind the Setting Sun A new play by, Paul Willis Jr, and Andrew Patrick Mazer
"One Stride Behind the Setting Sun" takes place chronologically between Sophocless two classic plays, "Oedipus the King" and "Antigone" and tells the events which lead to the tragic state of affairs in Thebes at the beginning of Antigone. Having self-exiled more than a decade prior, Oedipuss adult children struggle through the emotional turmoil of their lives in a city mired by their fathers crimes. The trauma of these events has seeped into everyone associated with them in myriad ways, and sown strife within the family. Antigone fights desperately to keep her siblings together, while her brothers grow daily farther from each other. Polynices finds himself wracked with doubts about his mental health, while Eteocles falls farther under Creons powerful wing daily. None are spared from this turmoil, which inevitably works to tear the family apart.
It is a traditional Greek tragedy, written in language to reflect the style of play.
