Groundhog Open 2014
The Third Annual Groundhog Open is coming to downtown Fort Wayne on February 6th, 2014. The Fort Wayne Downtown Improvement District is sponsoring this indoor golf tournament to benefit downtown beautification efforts via the Downtown Planter Program.
The Groundhog Open will be played on a beautiful indoor 18-hole championship putting course laid out between the Grand Wayne Convention Center, the Historic Embassy Theatre/Indiana Hotel and the Courtyard by Marriott.
The Groundhog Open will feature four flights of golfers: at 8:30am, 11:00am, 1:30pm and 4:00pm. Closing ceremonies, prizes, and the after-party will take place upon completion of the final flight of golf at the Courtyard by Marriott. You must attend to win prizes. A light lunch, snacks, a "halfway house" and a cash bar will be available to players.
New to the event, for those who play in the 8:30am flight, we have a special treat for you. Duke Butler, Tournament Director, Hotel Fitness Championship will speak about the history of the event, past successes, future goals and the economic impact of the tournament to Northeast Indiana. The 7:30am breakfast buffet is sponsored by the Hilton Hotel and is included with event registration for the first flight of golfers. The breakfast will be held in the Grand Wayne Convention Center, Calhoun A.
The Groundhog Open is a totally unique event that raises funds towards the expansion and maintenance of the year-round Downtown Planter Program. The planters were originally established by the City as part of the 2009-2010 renovation of Calhoun Street, and are maintained by the Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department, with support of the Downtown Improvement District. The extraordinary popularity of the floral streetscapes with downtown residents, employees and visitors has lead to the requests for expansion of the Planter Program.
