Walking on Water Productions (WoW) is pleased to be opening its 2021 season with a virtual video production of an original musical--Comfort Food by Rachel Lampert & Larry Pressgrove.  Comfort Food tells three separate stories of eating, entertaining, engagements, and estrangements happening in three separate kitchens in New York City and features actor/singers Emily Jackson, Kristin Sad, and Jahmar Ortiz.

Part 1: In Harriet's Kitchen we meet Harriet Reziteppa hosting her own TV cooking show Sing for Your Supper in her tiny Manhattan apartment. These may be pandemic times and winter is doing her thing, but as Harriet says, We still have to eat!  A homestyle cook, Harriet is also a chanteuse and embellishes her instructions with songs. An expert in 10-Minute Meals, she enjoys answering emails from her fans and sharing plans for her upcoming wedding along with tidbits about what's new in her life. Her usual free and breezy conversation takes a turn as she learns some unexpected news just as she is about to go on air. Featuring Emily Jackson as Harriet.

Part 2: Estelles Kitchen takes place on the day of New Years Eve. Its the third anniversary of the passing of Estelles husband, and she is busy in her kitchen preparing a dinner of delicate appetizers for her friend Stephanie who is flying in from Seattle. Part memorial and part celebration, the two widows anticipate time together. Even though there is a snowstorm threatening plane travel, Estelle is bent on willing the weather to clear and moving forward in her life. Featuring Kristin Sad as Estelle.

Part 3: Gabriels Kitchen. Gabriel thought his relationship with Jamal was going fine until Jamal started to explore experimental cooking. After many attempts to embrace a new cuisine, Gabriels desire for the comfort of fast food and a homemade peanut butter and jelly sandwich results in an unplanned break-up. Retreating to his moms kitchen, Gabriel contemplates whether ones tastes can literally be irreconcilable. Surrounded by the forbidden foods--in a sugar-filled, carbo-driven frenzy--he discovers the true nourishment he needs. Featuring Jahmar Ortiz as Gabriel.
Its been wonderful to re-imagine this show for video. Fun to be filming in the actors real kitchens. This is a new challenge with everyone discovering their newly acquired video skills! says writer/lyricist Rachel Lampert. Its terrific to hear these three actors sing our songs, adds composer Larry Pressgrove.

Comfort Food is a perfect show for these times. We could rehearse in no-contact, safe environments and end up with a fully produced musical! says artistic director and WoW founder, Priscilla Hummel.
