Gypsy
The musical Gypsy is loosely based on the 1957 memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, the world-famous striptease artist. The story is focused on her mother, Mama Rose, the ultimate model of a show business stage mother. In particular, it follows the dreams and aspirations of Rose to raise her two daughters to become stars of the stage and allows the audience to see into the hard-knock world of show business life. The character of Louise is based on Lee and the character of June is based on Lee's younger sister, the actress June Havoc. This Broadway classic, with book by Arthur Laurents, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and music by Jule Styne, is one not to be missed.
