The Night of the Living Dead
Here's your chance to us in the historic, haunted Concrete Theatre for a night of history-making horror. The Night of the Living Dead, filmed on a shoestring budget in 1968, marked the beginning of the zombie genre. It also was a commentary on the times, released during the Vietnam war, when tensions in America were at an all-time high. No wonder this movie is so relatable to us in  2020!

We'll be screening this movie for a select audience, with a very limited number of seats available. In keeping with Washington State's Safe Start reopening plan, a number of precautions must be followed.*

The Night of the Living Dead, directed by horror master George A. Romero, is a great story of independent cinema: a midnight hit turned box-office smash that became one of the most influential films of all time. Its a deceptively simple tale of a group of strangers trapped in a farmhouse who find themselves fending off a horde of recently dead, flesh-eating ghouls.

Romero's vision is of a late-1960s America literally tearing itself apart. He rewrote the rules of the horror genre, combined gruesome gore with acute social commentary, and quietly broke ground by casting a black actor (Duane Jones) in its lead role.

Stark, haunting, and more relevant than ever, Night of the Living Dead lives on.

Released in October 1968, the film is not rated but is not recommended for audience members under the age of 16. Run time is 1 hour and 36 minutes.

~ Reviews ~
"The immediate, quasi-documentary feel, a result of budgetary constraints, actually served the film's horror, jolting audiences because it all seemed just a little too real." - Village Voice

"If Romero's original vision of the undead looks dulled by today's standards, his embedded political commentary on racism feels just as sharp." - New York Magazine
