Event
Peter and the Wolf / Angel Tree
We are pleased to present Robert Ivey's Peter and the Wolf and The Angel Tree, a Charleston tradition. Prokofiev composed Peter and the Wolf to introduce children to certain instruments in the orchestra. The ballet is narrated so that children can easily follow Peter's adventures in the meadow, where he playfully interacts with his animal friends. All is well until the dangerous wolf appears. To the delight of the children in the audience, Peter and his animal friends outsmart and finally defeat the menacing wolf.
The Angel Tree is performed before Peter and the Wolf as a holiday treat for our audience. Local Children audition to be a Snowflake or Snow Angel, and dance with the Snow Princesses. The Angel Tree culminates in the entire cast and audience singing Silent Night.
