Straight from The Dabar Festival, Pt. Yogesh Samsi & Pt. Tanmay Deochake will be appearing in concert at Emory Presbyterian Church. This is a rare opportunity to hear one of the giants of the Tabla perform a Classical Tabla Solo! Yogesh Ji will be accompanied by Tanmay Deochake who is one of the rising stars of Classical Indian Music & World Fusion.
Yogesh Samsi is one of those rare tabla players whose reputation has been built on his consummate artistry in both fields of accompaniment and solo playing. The son of the renowned vocalist Pandit Dinkar Kaikini, Yogesh Samsi was initiated into tabla by his father at the tender age of four, and later received guidance under Pandit H.Taranath Rao. However it was under the gifted tutelage of the legendary Ustad Alla Rakha that Yogesh received intense training for twenty-three years and, matured into a fine young tabla player.
Yogesh has accompanied almost all of he top ranking instrumentalists, vocalists and dancers of India, including Ustad Vilayat Khan, Pt Dinkar Kaikini, Pt Bhimsen Joshi, Pt Shivkumar Sharma, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Pt Birju Maharaj.
Apart from accompaniment, Yogesh has performed numerous memorable solo performances in India and abroad. He has also had the privilege of accompanying his teacher Ustad Alla Rakha and his son the great maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain in their solo tabla recitals.
With the ever-growing influences of modern and fusion music, Yogesh Samsi still strives to keep up his revered Guru's word of preserving the tradition in the presentation of tabla solo.
Tanmay Deochake is regarded as one of the upcoming gems in the new generation of Indian Classical Musicians. In addition to the revered tradition & presentation of Indian Classical Music, Tanmay has also made a name for himself in the ever-widening world of "Global Music Fusion". God given talent coupled with a natural affinity & depth of understanding for Classical Indian Music at such a young age bear testimony to the traditional value of Guru-Shishya Parampara. (Guru-Disciple Relationship through an unbroken lineage).
Beginning his studies at the age of 4, Tanmay first studied with his Grandfather, the late Shri Gopalrao Deochake (Synthesizer) and later, Shri Prakash Shinde. (Harmonium) At present, Tanmay is receiving advanced training from Shri Pramod Marathe.
Tanmay's depth of expression & strong sense of Laya (Rhythm) have afforded Tanmay the opportunity to accompany many of Classical Indian Music's top artists such as: Pt. Suresh Talwalkar, Mrs. Aarti Ankalikar, Mrs. Padma Talwalkar, Shri Shaunak Abhisheki & many more. Currently, Tanmay is providing harmonium accompaniment for Yogesh Samsi during his solo tabla concerts.
