ONLINE: Magick: Thautmaturgy in Theory & Practice
NOTE: This will be an online class via Zoom. Zoom information will be sent to all participants one hour before the event.

The practice of Magic(k) has been analyzed by practitioners often and by outside scholars rarely, but how do you go about understanding it yourself? Are you prepared to consider that the nature of magic might make the answer acutely subjective and personal? Will you consider magic from one cultural perspective, with a standardized set of criteria, and an end goal in mind? Would an author approach the subject as a practitioner would? and what historical details might be considered?

The scope of this class is to introduce the student to the concept's historical background, and a general survey of practices so that they might answer these questions for themselves.  The development of an understanding of Magic both as a variety of paradigms and a personal path will be outlined, as well as various fantasy author's methods in creating magical systems. Finally, the class will offer an example schema by which magic could be understood, with prompts to allow the students to begin wording a lens of their own creation.

Whether researching for a writing project or starting an occult study, this class is designed as an introduction to magic(k)al workings, drawing from fictional, historic, cultural, and modern sources. Taught by a professional educator, this class includes a multimedia lecture, Q&A, as well as handouts and reading lists.

Jarys Maragopoulos is a History and Language Arts Teacher, who has studied the occult informally for over 15 years, They have co-hosted  Wicked Grounds' monthly Sex Magick Coffee Social and serve as a Volunteer elected Pastor at the First Church of the Morningstar.
