The International Animated Film Festival
Who will win the Crystal? Each year in June, the same suspense keeps the charming city of Annecy in suspense. Become over the years a world reference in the field of animated film, the Annecy Festival offers an international competition bringing together more than 200 films from around the world including short and feature films, television films and films of end of study. In parallel to the competition, screenings are previewed in the different rooms of the city, exhibitions, student meetings, conferences, retrospectives and autograph sessions. Every evening, free outdoor screenings take place on the lawn of Pâquier. Founded in 1960 and organized by CITIA, the Annecy festival aims to reveal and highlight the creations of the largest animation studios as well as those of young talents. Since 1985, the trophy awarded to the winners of the competition has been the "Crystal", an original creation by the Slovak glassmaker Yan Zoritchak. The list of winning films is prestigious and includes works such as Porco Rosso by Hayao Miyazaki (1993), James and the giant fishing by Henry Selick (1997) or Kirikou and the Witch by Michel Ocelot (1999). Throughout the week, the Annecy International Animated Film Festival is accompanied by the International Animated Film Market (Mifa). The purpose of this market is to encourage meetings between professionals and to inform the general public about current events and developments in the animation film industry.
