Whats the difference between opera and musicals? They were in two different worlds and now they often crisscross the divide. The Contra Costa Chorale, directed by Cindy Beitmen and accompanied by Martin Morley and guest instrumentalists, will present a concert of music from the golden age of opera and noteworthy musicals on and off Broadway. We will sing music from the first opera written in 1600 by Jacopo Peri as well as opera choruses by Verdi, Smetana, Borodin, Bizet and Mascagni. Then on to the Great White Way with pieces by Cole Porter, Tom Jones, John Kander, Fats Waller, Richard Rodgers, Jonathan Larson, Cy Coleman, and an audience sing-along of One from A Chorus Line by Marvin Hamlisch. Join us as we take a look at the differences and commonalities of these two great musical genres.
This concert will be performed at two different locations on two different dates and at different times:
Saturday, December 5, 8:00 p.m. Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley (UUCB), 1 Lawson Road, Kensington 94707
