Sex and Power: The Visual Language of Oppression
Film director, Nina Menkes presents her talk for NMWIF on how the recent #MeToo tidal wave of sexual abuse and assault revelations connects directly to the visual language of cinema. Menkes will show iconic film clips from the 1940s through the present to support her compelling argument. There will be a Q & A afterwards with the director.
Nina Menkes appears in collaboration with the CCA via Skype. This presentation will be filmed for inclusion in the upcoming documentary film, Brainwashed and is sponsored by IATSE Local 480.
Wednesday, March 18th 7:00 pm CCA Theater (1050 Old Pecos Trail, Santa Fe) Tickets are FREE for NMWIF & IATSE members & $15 for the public. (Funds from ticket sales support NMWIFs scholarship programs)
Nina Menkes is one of Americas most respected filmmakers. Her films are uncompromising in structure and scope, blending a powerful feminist sensibility and aesthetic to make complex, compelling narratives that often explore the intersection between sexuality and violence. She counts among her many admirers such independent film luminaries as Allison Anders (Gas, Food, Lodging), Gus Van Sant (Elephant), and Benicio Del Toro (Che).
