When they perform together, husband-and-wife duo Polina and Merlin Shepherd bring an enormous wealth of different experiences and entirely different backgrounds to the stage, creating sounds that blend Polina's background in Russian culture set against her childhood in an Islamic region of the former Soviet Union with the Welsh-born-and-raised Merlin's study of Balkan music, as well as Eastern European klezmer, filtered through his experience playing with the top theatre orchestras in the UK. Returning to Yidstock from their home in Brighton, England, the two will explore their creative process integrating all these various influences in conversation with Seth Rogovoy.
