An Evening with Cookie Rabinowitz at The Living Room
Philly's alternative soul singer Cookie Rabinowitz, who is also The Living Room's talented web designer, returns to The Living Room to perform a stripped-down set.
Dan Reed, music director for Philadelphia's esteemed WXPN, said: "This is f#*%ing me up its SO GOOD!"
Rabinowitz started out as an introspective folk singer with reclusive tendencies and oversized, pimp-like glasses. While struggling to make ends meet, he took a job as a DJ in an infamous Philadelphia gentleman's club, and discovered his musical tastes being driven in a different direction. The "on-the-job demand" for rugged beats and smoldering hooks took his music far, far away from his sensitive singer-songwriter world. This revelation has ushered in a new era of bump music he has dubbed "Four Eyed Soul." The moniker is a nod to Philly's rich history of Blue-Eyed Soul, and Rabinowitz's aesthetic encompasses this smoothly sophisticated sensibility as well as hip-hop, classic soul, rock and R&B. The Four Eyed Soul vibe is both futuristic and classic.
