Songwriters Night with Crys Matthews, Scott Cook, Ami Yares and Ethan Pierce at The Living Room
Aaron Nathans and Avi Wisnia host Songwriters Night, a monthly residency showcasing some of the best local and touring songwriters. Come experience a unique night of songs, storytelling and collaboration in this intimate listening room environment. April's concert features Crys Matthews, Scott Cook, Ami Yares and Ethan Pierce.
About Crys Matthews:
Ask about the new generation of social justice music-makers and they'll mention Crys Matthews, a powerful lyricist whose songs of compassionate dissent reflect her lived experience as what she lightheartedly calls "the poster-child for intersectionality." A former drum major and classically-trained clarinetist turned folk singer, Matthews is using her voice to answer Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s call to be "a drum major for justice." About Scott Cook:
Alberta's Scott Cook has been living out of a van or a backpack for a dozen years now, touring almost incessantly across Canada, the US, Europe, Asia, Australia and elsewhere, and distilling his experiences into straight-talking, keenly observant verse. He's currently touring in support of his seventh collection, "Tangle Of Souls," which comes packaged in a hardcover book of road stories and ruminations, both personal and political. Scott is one of the hardest-working DIY troubadours on the road today, averaging around 150 shows including a dozen festivals every year since 2007.
"He sings his heart and soul, and in doing so lets light flood into your own... Truly one of Woody Guthrie's children." -RnR Magazine

About Ami Yares:
Singer-songwriter Ami Yares is the offspring of the sprawling New Jersey suburbs, raised in the echo of the Liberty Bell and caught between the lines of folk songs sung late into the night. His music affords a few glimpses of Pete Seeger social justice-minded music, a tiny drop of Cohen & Dylan's biblical tinkerings and the raucous rhythm of floorboards been stomped in song.
"Yares wields his 12-string guitar as if it were an entire orchestra, backing his vocals with a dense, rich cascade of sound (David Foster, AXS)." For Ami, it's a privilege and responsibility to follow the muse of music and justice, together.

About Ethan Pierce:
Philadelphia area singer songwriter Ethan Pierce is a soulful folk singer with powerful pipes and a personal songwriting style all his own. Pulling inspiration from great singers and writers through the decades, from Otis Redding to Ray Lamontagne. Ethans lyrics are honest, and his performances are sincere. He is set to release his debut full-length album in 2020. For more information visit www.facebook.com/epiercemusic.
