Scottish Rite Theater 207 W 18th St, Austin, TX 78701
Featuring Edwin Aparicio, Norberto Garrido, Genevieve Guinn, Defne Enç, Jose Cortes, Yiyi Orozco and Ricardo Marlow
In this work (originally conceived in 2012), Aparicio continues to explore gender themes in Flamenco. While steeped in tradition, remarks Aparicio, flamenco continues to evolve. What is and is not feminine or masculine in flamenco is not always a question of inflexible cultural norms. Rather, it is a complex system of organic changes - a system of subtleties and serendipitous outcomes. Aparicio and his ensemble of dancers, guitarists and cantaores bring to the stage the fire and grace that has made this art one of the most mystifying and ancient celebrations of emotion and music in modern history.
