Modern Media Censorship Lecture 3
The third session of the Modern Media Censorship lectures features the work of independent journalists Joshua Holland and Marcy Wheeler.
Joshua Holland is a senior writer and editor at AlterNet and a recipient of a Schumann Foundation grant for independent journalism. Hollands writing focuses on foreign policy, economic issues, immigration and electoral politics. He will present his award-winning story about the most recent peer-reviewed survey of civilian casualties in Iraq and discuss the decline of critical thought in mainstream journalism today.
Marcy Wheeler holds a PhD in comparative literature. She is an independent reporter and contributes to the Guardian U.K. Her live-blogging of the Scooter Libby trial was celebrated as one of the first news stories in which coverage from a team of bloggers surpassed the quality of coverage offered by the traditional media. Marcy will present her award-winning story about the increasing abuse of executive branch privilege within the country today, in an environment of declining government oversight, and discuss the practice of journalism in a time of political polarization.
