Karan Casey Band, with Mckinley James and Dan Faiella
Karan Casey comes to us again with some terrific support musicians and a new - and outstanding - her latest CD called Hieroglyphics That Tell the Tell. Of course, most recently, a triumphant stint with Childsplay as they wound down a 35 year carreer. She tells me she is soo looking forward to coming back to the Burren which she regards as one of the most intimate venues she plays anywhere in the world. .
See below for a sample from the CD. Down by the Glen. One of my favorite new songs of hers which tell of two women erased from Irish Revel History as many women were. A true story of strong women in a loving relationship at a time when it was of course, unacceptable and even more so by the Irish conservatism that took a hold after independence in 1922.
Opening for Karan will be Dan Faiella and McKinley James, a guitar and cello duo who both grew up playing Irish and New England traditional tunes and songs. They met while teaching at Maine Fiddle Camp and are exploring the sound possibilities of two melodic instruments. Dan Faiella has performed with some of the Northeasts premier fiddlers including Dan Foster, Alden Robinson, and Winifred Horan, among many others. Mckinley James is a founding member of the band Night Tree, which has toured nationally and internationally including at Portsmouth Music Hall, Jordan Hall, and the Swedish Korrö Music Festival. The Burren Backroom series is now well established as one of the most sought-after boutique series of trad presentation in the world.
