A Night with Lotus & Roses
A Fusion style of Chinese and Western music concert will be presented by local musicians with a mission to share an appreciation of chamber music performance and collaboration between Chinese instruments and Western instruments. Even though there are cultural differences between the Orient and the Occident, music is our common language and a bridge to connect the world.  We mix some different elements together and make a brand new view of music for this concert. Program will be including Chinese songs Moonlight over the Spring River, Horse Racing; Libertango by Piazzola and more. The performance will feature Jing Lu on the Yangqin, Western-Li Summerton on piano, Damon Flick on Pipa, Quinn Liu on cello, and guest artist Yi Sheng on the Chinese Zheng.

Jing Lu began studying yangqin (Chinese dulcimer) at age four, when she became known as a child prodigy. She received her B.A. degree in Yangqin Performance from the top music conservatory in China, Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) and M.F.A. in Stage Management at Columbia University. She has performed solo and chamber music concerts in many cities in China and United States include Off-Broadway production of David Henry Hwangs Golden Child at Signature Theatre in New York; Sound of Summer Concert at Central Connecticut State University. Jasmine Blossoms in the City of Roses Chinese Dulcimer Concert, Three Artists Journey to Music Concert, From Beijing to Portland Concert, From Beijing to Portland 2.0 Concert, Irrelevant Boundaries Concert and etc at Portland State University.  The Bridge Chinese Dulcimer Solo Recital at Carnegie Hall. Jing Lu relocated to Portland in 2017. She is luckily on the faculty members of the Portland State University. She also professionally serving as Special Music Project Coordinator for the Confucius Institute at PSU. Her projects are including music concerts, music cultural activates and International Summer Music School programs in China yearly. She performs and teaches in the region as well.

Western-Li Summerton is a pianist, teacher, and aspiring composer based in Portland Oregon. Born in Bellingham, Washington, he has studied with numerous pianists and pedagogues including Judith Widrig, Ralph Markham, Kenneth Broadway, Anita King, Jean-David Coen, and Hwakyu Lee, and has performed in numerous recitals, festivals, and competitions throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Summerton is currently finishing his Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance at Portland State University. Additionally, he is a ballet accompanist for Oregon Ballet Theatre, Bodyvox, and NW Dance Project.

Damon Flick, Pipa player and guitarist, is a multi-instrumentalist and composer with a passion for global music and local expression. After picking up the trumpet in 2008, Damon has been fortunate enough to share music with a variety of musicians in across two continents and one island chain. After growing up in the multi-cultural Hawaiian island of Oahu, Damon moved to the PNW to peruse education and graduated from Portland State University with a Degree in Composition and an instrumental focus on Guitar. Through PSU he spent two summers in Beijing studying the Chinese traditional music through the Chinese Lute knows as a Pipa.  He is currently playing and teaching music in and around the beautiful Rose City.

Born in Xinjiang, China, Quinn Kun Liu began her cello studies at age of eight and won her first cello competition at ten. Quinn received her Bachelors Degree in Cello Performance at The Shanghai Conservatory of Music in China and Masters Degree from University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) where she received a full scholarship. As an orchestra musician, Quinn has been performance in a variety of orchestras such as San Diego Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Inland Valley Symphony, Portland Cello Project. Previously, she also played in Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra and Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra in China. Quinn is an active chamber musician and she has been invited and performed in several music festivals in the States and Asia. Quinn moved to Portland, Oregon on 2017 and joined the Portland Columbia symphony on 2019. Currently, Quinn manages her home studio at Bethany area and works as the executive assistant at the Bravo! International Music Academy since 2016. Aside from music, Quinn has a great interest in fashion, travel, fine food and she also works as director of operations at Abroad & Future Inc. for International Education Programs.

Guest Artist
Yi Shen received her B.A degree in Guzheng Performance from the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) in China and she was admitted to the Graduate School of the Central Conservatory of Music with the first prize, under professor Sha Yuan. Yi has performed in many Concert Halls in China including the National Grand Theatre, CCTV and Xi'an Concert Hall. She also performed at Calgary University in Canada and Columbia University in United Sates. On 2018, Yi was invited by the Confucius Institute to be a music teacher at CIPSU and offer Guzheng class.
