Flamenco y Acomplices Tour, Fresno
Come enjoy a night of flamenco when Ricardo Diaz brings his West Coast tour of "Flamenco Y Acomplices" to Fresno. It'll be a night to remember and hear the passion filled cante jondo songs, see the fiery flamenco dance, and feel the rich guitar sounds of Andalucia in an intimate and warm setting. You'll feel as if you were transported to one of Spain's tablaos.

Sr. Diaz will be bringing with him internationally acclaimed artists of the flamenco world:

Flamenco dancer, Carola Zertuche:
Sra. Zertuche is the Artistic Director for Theatre Flamenco of San Francisco was born in Torreon, Mexico. She began her dance career in Mexico City's Tablao Meson de Triana, where she shared the stage with renowned artists such as Domingo Ortega, Juan de Angelica, Antonio Rey, El Kiki, and Luisa de Cadiz; and where she studied with Manolo Vargas, and Pilar Rioja. Thereafter, she moved to Spain to study with renowned artists Ciro, Belen Maya, Andres Marin, Israel Galvan, and jota master Pedro Azorin and where she performed with the company Los Tarantos. Carola moved to the Bay Area to continue her dance career as a performer, choreographer and teacher.
Carola has toured throughout Mexico, the United States and the Middle East with renowned flamenco companies such as: Maria Benitez Teatro Flamenco Santa Fe NM, Joyce Theatre New York, and Fox Theatre Atlanta; La Tania, as Guest Artist with Domingo Ortega Flamenco Company, Los Angeles; Andres Marin Company in the "First Flamenco Festival San Francisco"; and as special guest artist for Juan Siddi Flamenco Theatre Company, Royal Daphna Hall, Doha, Qatar.
Her dance has been showcased in such festivals as: the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival from 2002 to 2009, the Santa Barbara Ethnic Dance Festival 2001, and Flamenco Festivals in Monterrey and Mexico City, Mexico.
Carola has received numerous nominations and awards for her talents and contributions to flamenco in the Bay Area. Nominated in 2002 for the Isadora Duncan Award for "Outstanding Achievement in Performance: Soloist," she has since been recognized for: "Best Classic Flamenco Show", San Francisco Magazine, 2007 and "Best Flamenco Show," San Francisco Weekly, 2008.

Cantaor (singer), Cristo Cortes:
Sr. Cortes was born in Marseille, France. He is of Gypsy origin from the province of Almeria, Spain. He started performing at the age of six at gypsy weddings and parties. Cristo began his professional career in 1991 in Montreal, Canada with the group "Alma de Noche" and went on to a very successful career touring the US, Mexico and Europe, with Carmen Linares, Andres Marin, Juana Amaya, Juan Andres Maya, and Antonio "El Negro". He has performed in the renowned tablaos of Madrid, Seville, Tokyo and Barcelona.
Cristo is a charismatic singer, and those who have had the pleasure of hearing him are sure to understand the beauty and complexity of the flamenco art form from the heart of Almeria where Cortes was born and raised.
Cristo Cortes, has toured Switzerland and Greece with renowned guitarist Antonio "El Negro", and toured with Andres Marin in October 2002. This year Cristo will be touring the West Coast with Ricardo Diaz, making his second visit to Fresno since September 2010. Those who have experienced the cante of Cristo Cortes during his last performance will not be disappointed with the intimate show presented by Academia de Arte Flamenco.

Dancer, Antonio Arrebola:
Sr. Arrebola is one of the most promising young dancers in Spain today and is a Fresno audience favorite making his third appearance.
He has been dancing professionally since the age of fifteen and has performed in many prominent tablaos in Andalucia. Tablaos such as: Christina Hoyos Flamenco Museum, El Arenal, Casa Carmen, Palacio Andaluz, and Casa de la Memoria in Sevilla; La Cueva, La Rocío, and Los Tarantos in Granada; and El Rincón del Tiriri and El Tango in Málaga. In addition to tablaos Antonio has also danced in some of the most important peñas in Sevilla, such as Pies Plomo and Torre Macarena.

Guitarist,Ricardo Diaz:
Sr. Diaz discovered the art of flamenco in San Francisco, where he began his studies with guitarist Jorge Liceaga.
He started traveling to Madrid and Andalucia Spain, where he studied with "El Entri", "Anito", Jose Luis Rodrigues and "El Viejin".
Ricardo has performed in Festivals and "Tablaos" in the US, Canada, South America, Asia, and Europe, working with several international artists including Andres Marin, Alejandro Granados, "La Tania," Pastora Galvan, and renowned dance companies such as Teatro Flamenco San Francisco, Caterina Costa of Rome, Yjastros Dance Company of Albuquerque NM, Flamenco Sur in France, and always returns to Fresno because of the warm and friendly response he always receives.
Ricardo has been teaching classes and workshops for several years in the US, Canada, and Europe, in addition to teaching at different Colleges and Universities.
