As we achieve the numeral XII, the hands of the clock meet again at midnight, the dead of night, for our offbeat festival's twelfth year, marking the completion of a 12-year cycle. (This is significant for us, as Stradella button systems count in twelves also, dictating the rhythms and flows of our musical lives.)|
What it all amounts to is that East Vancouver's infamous Accordion Noir Festival is once again nigh upon us, squeezing reedy tones out at you from the weekend of November 15th -- our most syncopated date ever!
The instrument is as everywhere as it is nowhere, and this year's Friday night mainstage program at the WISE Hall (1882 Adanac at Victoria) constitutes a good start at a world tour for your ears, beginning with an excursion into the sounds of east Africa with Sudanda (cdbaby.com/artist/sudanda), heading north to Sápmi in northern Finland with VILDÁ (bafesfactory.fi/vilda), sailing from Scandinavia across the Atlantic in longboats to Vinland to compose new epics with Wolfbrood (wolfbrood.bandcamp.com), then veering sharply south to stomp your boots to the sweaty swamp sounds of the Mississippi River Delta with Nuvo Zydeco (facebook.com/pg/Nuvo-Zydeco-1991092347651930).
Please join us the following day for our by-donation Community Day program at Spartacus Books starting at 2 pm.
