GROUND BREAKERS
In the inaugural concert of our 9th season, La Caccina pays homage to the women who have gone before us. They are girls who dare to dream, and rebels who fight for freedom. They are farmers who work all day under the hot sun, and witches who harness the power of the earth. They are politicians who steer their countries, and mothers who guide their children. They are the Groundbreakers.
The pieces in this varied and beautiful program honor these women. From Rosephanye Powell's haunting arrangement of "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child" to Joan Szymko's joyful "She Who Makes Her Meaning Clear," to a new commission from Chicago composer Kyra Leigh, Groundbreakers highlights the versatile power of women, and acknowledges the ways in which their strength makes the road ahead a little smoother for us all.
