Don't take our word for it:
"The concert and where you all were, went to, and took us was amazingly spiritually transcendent and transporting. Man, did my heart need what you all played.
I was wondering what you think about this thought about what your group did and one of the ways I was explaining to myself why I have NEVER heard a concert that had some classical elements in it be so
Transforming. My thought goes like this. Although I have certainly been to classical concerts that were magnificent, I realize, after listening last night to the Spanish Folk Concert, that one of the goals, or even assumptions, of classical performance, is to blend and to be very smooth (excepting avant garde types who purposely dont do this).
Whereas what Im guessing makes your ensemble so deeply moving is exactly the opposite of that. Im guessing the direction, or if not the direction, just the natural spirit of all the musicians is to let your own timbre shine forth and all of our natural timbres will BE the blend, as opposed to tamping down ones natural musical fingerprint to blend into one smooth as glass symphony sound.
Yes the blend of the group is wonderful and very tight, but it has such magic that I had to try and figure out the essence of that magic, being a musician myself. A good example of this is the duet between the two galegas. They blended and clashed and danced together as does everything in nature, like the raw voices of the gypsy kings, in another example. So what shines out is the entire collective passion of a group of people saying whatever is in their soul at that given moment, giving it to the whole and letting that collective cry be the song that we hear, and it touches us so deeply because it is so human, so gypsy."
