Cellular Cinema 50 - Reb Limerick: Ecosexual Healing (10-6)
Bryant Lake Bowl Cabaret Theater

Share this event:

This succinct and potent collection of moving images is comprised of video art, 16mm films, animation, and narrative shorts from self-identifying gender non-binary and womxn makers based in Southern California.

Within an hour's time you may experience the eroticism of a radiator, run your fingers through your hair, traverse a dense garden, call in sick to seek snakes, miss church to cast a spell, and find out if astral projecting is right for you! Imagine a triple venn diagram in which the circles read "ecology," "sexuality," and "healing." Each of these works fall within those intersections. The innermost triangle reads AND feels like: "ecosexual healing."

Included Artists:
Edgar Fabian Frias
Cheri Gaulke
Lyra Hill
Song E Kim
Dorothy Lee
Yixuan Maisie Luo
Yuka Murakami

Reb L Limerick was born in Miami in 1991; a year later Hurricane Andrew hit, sending an avocado tree crashing through the window and into her crib. Reb poetically and unapologetically felt the weight of climate change from a young age. Limerick now straddles video and performance art embodying interconnected themes of ecology, technology, and sexuality through voice, language, collaboration, and improvisation. Limerick earned an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art and Social Practice from University of Minnesota Twin Cities in 2018. Previously, she received her BA in Visual Arts (Media) Film/Video with a minor in Writing from University of California San Diego in 2013.

Limerick has participated in workshops with Marina Abramovic, Odeya Nini, and Pauline Oliveros, practicing endurance, vocal improvisation, and deep listening. She is currently performing, creating, rooting and growing in Los Angeles. She recently started a new position at Harvard Westlake Upper School, teaching video art and coordinating the student film festival, Westflix. Mx. Limerick is thrilled to infuse her queer spirit into the classroom and nurture allyship, artistic experimentation, and empathy among her high school students.
