SCRD Bootcamp
Steel City Roller Derby welcomes potential new recruits! No previous skating experience required!
We're gearing up for this year's recruitment season and excited to meet our new Freshies! Join us at Pittsburgh Indoor Sports Arena at 22 Rich Hill Rd, Cheswick, PA 15024 to learn what Steel City Roller Derby is all about!
To prepare you for tryouts, we are holding four bootcamps to teach you the skills youll need in order to tryout for SCRDno prior skating experience is necessary! All bootcamps will be approximately an hour and a half in length and will cover the same material. You can attend as many bootcamps as you like, but you must attend at least one in order to be eligible to try out. Tryouts will take place on September 30th.
Bootcamps are held 7:30pm-9:00pm on the following dates:
-Thursday September 5th
-Thursday September 12th
-Monday September 16th
-Monday September 23rd
During bootcamps, you'll meet our Training and Skills crew who will be helping you develop throughout your roller derby career!
Bootcamps are open to all female identifying and gender expansive folx at least 18 years of age. Safety gear including: helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, and mouth guard is required to participate. Some gear will be available, but supplies are limited and we cannot guarantee that we have enough for everyone. You must bring your own mouth guard, which can be purchased at many sporting goods sections and stores. (Be sure to follow the instructions that come with your mouth guard to mold it before coming to your first bootcamp.). Bootcamps are closed to spectators.
Per WFTDA statement about gender (link: https://wftda.com/wftda-gender-statement), SCRD is committed to inclusive and anti-discrimination practices in relation to all transgender women, intersex women, and gender expansive participants, and aims to ensure that all skaters, volunteers, and employees rights are respected and protected. An individual who identifies as a trans woman, intersex woman, and/or gender expansive may skate with Steel City Roller Derby if womens flat track roller derby is the version and composition of roller derby with which they most closely identify.
