VICTORIA: OFFICIUM DEFUNCTORUM
The combined adult and youth choirs of Cantores in Ecclesia, directed by Blake Applegate,
perform Tomás Luis de Victorias transcendent Requiem in concert at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Portland, Oregon.
Tomás Luis de Victorias profoundly spiritual setting of the Office of the Dead was first performed in 1603 at the funeral of Victorias patron, the Dowager Empress Maria, and was the last work the composer published before his death. This masterpiece of unparalleled beauty shows the composer at the height of his expressive powers.
