Sing Lughnasa! @ St. Luke's
3-Parish Events is pleased to present a weekend of music, stories, and spiritual growth featuring
Stefan Andre Waligur.
You are invited to join us for any or all of the events, August 2-4, as we engage in song, storytelling, liturgy and community.
Living in Ireland, Stefan is a hymn writer, presenter, and musician. His workshops are very participatory and will probably involve congregational singing, children and adults, and stories.
Saturday August 3, 2013 @ St Luke's, Gresham
Indoor/Outdoor event with Music, Food, Ceili( dancing!), and Fire!
A Family Friendly event!
The first weekend of August is the Celtic festival of Lughnasa, a harvest festival. Traditionally many different grains are gathered at Lughnasa and baked into one bread. For Celtic Christians, there is Eucharistic symbolism in the bread. Also at Lughnasa a bonfire is lit to commemorate the triumph of light over darkness. The Catholic church in Ireland blesses fields on Lughnasa, and the annual pilgrimage to the top of Croagh Patrick (a mountain associated with St. Patrick) takes place in late July, possibly because of its proximity to Lughnasa.
In Anglican circles, Lughnasa is also known as Lammastide.
