THIS CONCERT HAS BEEN CANCELLED For our season finale we recreate the splendors of Venice's Basilica di San Marco, featuring jewels by three of its maestri di capella: Croce (maestro from 1603 to 1609), Monteverdi (1613 to 1643), and Rovetta (1644 to 1668). Croce's Missa percussit Saul mille--one of Paul Flight's discoveries during his doctoral work at Indiana University--beautifully showcases cori spezzati, the double-choir style that became a trademark of choral compositions written for San Marco. We also perform Monteverdi's lively Beatus Vir and a grand Vespers by Rovetta, composed on the occasion of the birth of King Louis XIV, in 1638.
8 pm Friday May 1, 2020 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 1111 O'Farrell St at Franklin, San Francisco.
