4-H Meat Science & Youth for the Quality Care of Animals Certification
Spokane County 4-H Large Animal Committee Presents Meat Science & Youth for the Quality Care of Animals Certification Thursday July 25th @ 1pm-5pm WSU Spokane County Extension Office 222 N. Havana St Spokane WA Part 1: Meat Science A Cut Above: A tasty experience while exploring careers in meat science! Youth will learn about and taste meat cuts from various food animal species. Our Chef will be Dr. Paul Kuber WSU NE Washington Regional Livestock Extension Specialist. Dr. Kubers expertise in the food animal industry truly ranges from farm to plate. His knowledge on food animal production coupled with his education in meat science and his personal love for the barbecue make him a great resource for Spokane county.
Part 2: Youth for the Quality Care of Animals Certification (about 2 hours in length) Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) is a national multi-species quality assurance program for youth ages 8 to 21 with a focus on three core pillars: food safety, animal well-being, and character development. YQCA certification is being accepted by many livestock shows and fairs that require youth quality assurance certification. YQCA is a multi-species program that covers small and large food producing animals (pigs, beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, goats, rabbits and poultry).
*Currently YQCA is not required at Jr Livestock Show or Spokane County Fair. But neighboring 4-H Counties like Adams and Benton Franklin are requiring this program, Spokane County 4-H would like to be proactive and get youth exposed to this positive program that will be required in Spokane County 4-H in 2020.
Entry is $10.00 per youth. Once your RSVP is received you will be given a coupon and directions on how to sign up for the YQCA certification process at www.YQCA.org. RSVP July 15th. No late registrations allowed due to food purchases.
