Explore the former Buffalo State Asylum for the Insane's full 200-acre campus on this outdoor tour! Led by an expert volunteer docent, visitors will see buildings originally part of the asylum grounds, as well as locations of buildings long lost. Under construction for decades, the former asylum was the work of many architects and visionaries, all creating and demolishing buildings as needs changed at the hospital.
The tour digs deep into the history and former uses of various structures at the asylum, introducing visitors to the vision of architect H.H. Richardson and the practical, structural needs of a massive state hospital.
If you've ever explored the Richardson Olmsted Campus and wondered about the massive buildings, this is the tour for you.
Photography is allowed and encouraged on this one-of-a-kind outdoor exploration of the Richardson Olmsted Campus.
