Everyday Consent
Can you think of a time when you said "yes" when you really meant "no?" Or maybe you felt uncomfortable setting a boundary? Perhaps it was a challenge to identify what your true desire in the moment was?!
This has been all of us at one point or another in our lives....
Though we often think about consent only in the context of dating, consent is ACTUALLY a part of our every day lives. As a professional massage therapist, obtaining informed consent is a CRUCIAL part of my job, as is is understanding/respecting client boundaries, communicating effectively (both verbally and non-verbally) and successfully meeting client expectations. All of this, however, is also a two way street. I have noticed in my work, that often times clients do not have the body awareness, communication skills, or simply feel empowered enough to co-create a session with me. Thus, I created this workshop to support and empower people to learn body awareness, communication skills, and emotional literacy, in order to have more effective bodywork treatments, as well as interactions beyond the massage room. We will practice skills that help us listen to and understand our own physical and emotional experience, so that we can better: communicate with others, set clear and healthy boundaries, and improve the quality of connection in all of our relationships. We will explore as a group a variety of interactive, self-reflective, and collective sharing activities, all to be held in a safe, supportive container.
