Tim's Tavern Happy Hour Show: The Coastals, DB Stewart & Ex Architects
Join Seattle's own indie-rock/soul darlings The Coastals alongside their friends DB Stewart and LA's Ex Architects for their Seattle debut at Tim's Tavern for a happy hour show from 4-7PM on Sunday, June 30th.
The Coastals:
Comprised of three friends in Seattle by way of Nashville, LA and Boston, The Coastals are a tight, indie-rock/soul trio merging the musical upbringings of its members. Holding it down on the skins Nick Sanchez is a jazz-drummer by trade but his songwriting compositions to the band are inspired by the new wave of female indie-pop songwriters like Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus. Singer-songwriter and guitarist Evan DeVries is a trained jazz singer, who draws stylistically from D'Angelo, Justin Timberlake and Allen Stone. Rounding out the band on bass is Blake Johnston, a multi-instrumentalist and broody singer-songwriter in his own right with his band Casual Cubs. The Coastals are playing locally in Seattle, while gearing up in-studio performance videos to accompany a debut single.
DB Stewart:
DB Stewart is a singer-songwriter from Seattle, Washington. His genre-bending debut, Save My Soul, delivers a heartfelt fusion of blues, rock, and pop. Inspired by the likes of ZZ Ward and Kaleo, the project features blues-laden melodies, biting lyrics, and crisp pop production, courtesy of dream-rock artist/producer, Emperidol.
For as long as he can remember, DB was fascinated by storytelling both through literature and music and always dreamed of making records. His foyer into music began at age five, when his parents enlisted him in piano lessons. However, it was his first guitar, at age 12, that truly unleashed his passion for songwriting.
After 10 years with his band Deify, he decided to step out on his own and explore outside the bands hard rock aesthetic. The writing process for Save My Soul also served as an intense study of self, delving into his struggles with anxiety and depression. Being raised in a Presbyterian household and spending elementary school and junior high in private school, DB ran into a lot of ideologies he didnt agree with, from a young age. It wasn't until reflecting that he realized how taxing some of those battles. Part of the struggle, and eventual catharsis, was dealing with those issues head on.
Ex Architects:
Ex Architects are a drippy dreamy indie rock/pop band from Los Angeles whose music can only be described as looming, powerful and seductive. They draw influences from British and US alt rock artists like Radiohead, Phantogram, Glass Animals, and Lana Del Rey. The group started as a duo consisting of songwriters Michael Glines and Faye Nightingale, with Glines on guitars and Nightingale on keys, and both alternating on lead vocals. In early 2018 they were featured on Under the Trackss YouTube channel performing their song Idk live in the Under the Tracks studio. Since the release of that video, Ex Architects have been receiving constant invitations to perform at different venues all over Los Angeles, and have performed at the Study (Hollywood), Stories (Echo Park), El Cid (Silverlake), and Harvard and Stone (East Hollywood) to name a few. They incorporated bassist Alex Rushka (The New Hippies) and drummer Katin Burns (Albion Sun) for their first show at the Study in Hollywood and have been playing as a four-piece since. The band are set to release their debut single in early 2019 and then an EP in the summer.
