Landmark Musical Theatre proudly presents its summer spectacular, The Drowsy Chaperone! Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Jazz Age musical, featuring one hilarious show-stopping song and dance number after another.|
With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and offers to take the audience on a delightful journey through the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical, The Drowsy Chaperone. As the record plays, the show comes to life inside his apartment on-stage, including two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and a "drowsy" (i.e., intoxicated) chaperone. Add in an amazing score and remarkable tap dancing and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.
Hailed by New York Magazine as "The Perfect Broadway Musical," The Drowsy Chaperone is a masterful meta-musical, poking fun at all the tropes that characterize the musical theatre genre. Directed and choreographed by former Broadway actor/singer/dancer Gary Ferguson with music direction by stellar vocalist and pianist Juanita Harris (a TBA Best Featured Actress award nominee for her 2017 role as The Stranger in Landmark's Roar of the Greasepaint, Smell of the Crowd), this show promises to be a huge hit for the summer musical theatre audience in San Francisco.
PLEASE NOTE THE 6:30 PM CURTAIN ON SUNDAY, JUNE 30, 2019. THIS IS DUE TO THE PRIDE PARADE. WE HAVE MOVED OUR SUNDAY MATINEE TO THIS NEW TIME TO AVOID THE TRAFFIC AND TRANSIT ISSUES THAT WILL OCCUR ON THAT DATE. WE APPRECIATE YOUR UNDERSTANDING!
