Thursday After School Special:Hip Hop
Breakin In (USA) 45 minutes. Dir: Elizabeth St. Philip. The images are everywhere: young, black women shaking their assets in music videos featuring the biggest names in hip-hop. This edgy documentary goes behind the scenes to follow Linda, Michelle and Tracy, three young women competing for roles in music videos. What drives these women to risk everything -- education, jobs, relationships -- for a chance at fame? What role do these images play in shaping young women's goals and identities? Through their eyes, we see how this world has impacted their person values, career ambitions and concepts of beauty and self image.

The Fronterz (USA) Director: Courtney Jones.
3 actors. 0 work. 1 shot. What would you do? Three Black actors, all trained in classic Shakespearean theatre, have difficulty finding roles. The actors create the fake rapper personas of Lil Problem, Big Spoon, and Pimp Mississippi Messiah, and suddenly become wildly popular. 90 min.

The Rodnees : We Mod Like Dat! (USA) Dir.: Lindley Farley. Four African-American lads from Brooklyn can't cut it in hip-hop, discover The Beatles, and become modern-day British Invasion-style singers. 60 min.
