LARK Ensemble Presents- Exuberance: Roberta Janzen in recital
We all love the deep vibrations of the cello, but seldom get to explore the full range of sound and emotion from its unique voice. On April 14, LARK cellist Roberta Janzen (see bio below) invites us to share her connection with this majestic instrument and its repertoire. Two solo cello works frame the program: Bach's optimistic and energetic third Suite, and Kodaly's impassioned Solo Sonata. In Ravel's lush and lyrical string quartet, Roberta will be joined by LARK Ensemble members Aaron Schwebel and Keith Hamm, as well as TSO violinist and Tokai String Quartet member Amanda Goodburn.
Join us for this memorable evening of music!
Winnipeg-born cellist ROBERTA JANZEN joined the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 2004. A former member of the Canadian Opera Company orchestra, she has also performed as guest principal cellist with Les Violons du Roy, the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. She has appeared at festivals throughout North America, including Tanglewood, Ravinia, Rutgers Summerfest, the Banff Centre and the Toronto Summer Music Festival. She has also been featured on CBC radio in recital and has recorded for CBC Records.
Roberta is passionate about chamber music. Along with her performances with the LARK Ensemble, she is a frequent guest artist in chamber series throughout Toronto including Five Small Concerts, the Syrinx Series, Music Mondays, Hart House and the Arts and Letters Club. She is a keen proponent of new music and has performed with TSO New Creations Players, Soundstreams, Continuum, and at the Music Gallery. Ms. Janzen performs on a cello made in 1747 by Juan Guillami.
