Produced and Hosted by Amy Salloway
Featured Storytellers: Venus de Mars and Lynette Reini-Grandell

Story Club Minneapolis is a live monthly storytelling show featuring both an open mic segment and a curated set of performers from all over the Twin Cities arts scene and beyond. Story Club showcases true, autobiographical stories -- especially stories that are bold, vulnerable, unexpected, and connected to the complexity of our cultural environment. No two Story Club evenings are ever alike, but each month when we wrap up the show, we feel like we've witnessed a new, unique little community coming together.

So! Starting at 6pm, audience members are invited to put their names in the jar for the opportunity to tell an up-to-7-minute story onstage (Requirements? Has to be a story, has to be true, has to be about you!). When the show begins at 7, three or four tellers are drawn at random to perform, and they'll be followed by our featured guests. Does this make you want to tell a story? GOOD! (Do it! Do it! Do it!)

Story Club's host and producer is actor/writer Amy Salloway! She's the creator of the award-winning autobiographical touring solo plays Does This Monologue Make Me Look Fat?, So Kiss Me Already, Herschel Gertz!, and Circumference, as well as the two-person show Entwined. She's contributed true personal stories to programs on MPR and CBC, and has been both a storyteller and story coach for the hit national podcast RISK! You can take memoir and creative writing classes from Amy through Minneapolis Community Ed, and storytelling workshops through The Story Studio. Find out more at Amy's Facebook page Awkward Moment Productions.

April's featured performers are Lynette Reini-Grandell and Venus De Mars!

Lynette Reini-Grandell is the author of Wild Verge (Holy Cow! Press, 2018) and Approaching the Gate (Holy Cow! Press, 2014), which won the 2015 Northeastern Minnesota Book Award for Poetry. Other work has appeared in Alligator Juniper, The Understanding between Foxes and Light, MNArtists.org, Poetry Motel, Revolver, Poetry City U.S.A., and Seminary Ridge Review. She has been nominated for a Pushcart and received grants for her work from the Finlandia Foundation and the Minnesota State Arts Board. Based in Minneapolis, she reads regularly with the Bosso Poetry Company and performs in the jazz/poetry collective Sonoglyph. Her work is often inspired by Finnish folk culture and song, and she frequently collaborates with Nordic Roots artists in multimedia performances. Find out more about Lynette at http://www.reini-grandell.com.

Venus de Mars is the iconic front person and founding member of the long standing Minneapolis glam-punk/trans-band All The Pretty Horses - a band that Venus formed in the early 90's, and fronted through turbulent dark days when identifying as trans meant being classified as having a mental perversion, living as an outcast, and moving through a world universally accepting of trans-phobic violence and discrimination.

Venus was one of the most beloved performers at Patrick's Cabaret, creating pieces that combined stories, music, visual art and audience participation; she was also a keynote speaker at the 2018 Minnesota Music Summit, and a speaker and performer at TEDx Minneapolis 2017. She, her wife Lynette Reini-Grandell, and her band are the subjects of the award winning 2006 trans rock-doc Venus of Mars by filmmaker Emily Goldberg.

Venus is currently in the process of writing a memoir, tentatively titled Trouble. Her most recent album, released last year, is called Flesh and Wire. Find out more at http://www.venusdemars.com/, or on twitter at https://twitter.com/venusdemars.
